Understanding UL Safe Ratings
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) classifies high-security safes by their resistance to real-world attack methods. During certification testing, trained technicians use the same tools and techniques employed by professional burglars — drills, saws, pry bars, and oxy-acetylene torches — to determine exactly how long each safe resists breach.
The rating hierarchy ranges from TL-15 (15 minutes of tool resistance on the door) through TRTL-60X6 (60 minutes of tool and torch resistance on all six sides). Higher ratings don't just mean better protection — they typically translate to lower insurance premiums for your stored assets, making the investment in a properly rated safe a strategic financial decision.
